NCTM chose to highlight the CT Noyce Math Teacher Leaders Program with a video of the work being done in the program. They filmed content in two Fellows’ classrooms and a whole group session done at UConn’s Hartford campus.

Three of our MTL Fellows attended the ATMNE Conference in Portland, ME held from October 12-13. Fellows presented professional development sessions to math educators and other education professionals in the New England area.

 

 

Two of our MTL Fellows attended the National Noyce Summit, Transforming Teacher Preparation and Retention: A Focus on Equity, Research, and Innovative Strategies, held from June 26-28 in Washington, DC. Fellows presented their Independent Leadership Projects, attended plenary sessions and engaged in workshops.

 

The Partners for Educational Leadership hosted Peter Liljedahl, author of Building Thinking Classrooms, for an in-person workshop. Ten Fellows had the opportunity to work with the author and experience, first-hand, the techniques that they read about over the summer.

Fellows presented and attended the Associated Teachers Of Mathematics In Connecticut (ATOMIC) conference held March 20^th in New Haven. Ilisse Gomez (Miss, I Need Help!), William McKinney (Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics), and Nicole Beauchamp (Systems and Structures for a Thinking Classroom) engaged workshop participants in ways to support their English Language Learners, establish positive classroom cultures, and design math tasks in which students can collaboratively discover learning and think deeply about math. CT Noyce MTL Fellow, Kate Grayeb, is a state finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Kate works at University High School for Hartford Public Schools where she is the Math Department Chair, math coach, and GSA advisor. Check out the announcement on the CSDE website.
