The American Institutes for Research is conducting a study of Simulated Instruction in Mathematics Professional Development (SIM PD) program. They are seeking districts to join this professional learning opportunity developed for 4th and 5th grade math teachers.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K–12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching.

Anyone—principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public—may nominate exceptional STEM teachers who are currently teaching grades K – 6 for the 2023 – 2024 award year. Teachers may also apply directly at http://www.paemst.nsf.gov/.

The nomination deadline is January 8, 2024, and the application deadline is February 6, 2024, for ELEMENTARY K – 6 teachers. SECONDARY teachers in grades 7-12  will be eligible to apply during a future cycle.

The nationwide STEM competition invites public school students in grades 6-12 to become social impact change makers in their communities, while winning technology and classroom supplies along the way.

Entering the competition is easy and takes just a few minutes, all you need is one idea. We know brainstorming can feel overwhelming, but have no fear, Solve for Tomorrow can fit into any curriculum! Below are a few thought starters. Plus, get inspiration from past winners here. 

• Science classrooms: Recycling or waste issues, food insecurity, environmental destruction
• Math classrooms: Financial literacy, living wage, predicting rates of climate change
• Social Studies classrooms: Transportation safety, voter turnout, elder care
• English classrooms: Literacy rates, access to books, education in underserved communities
• Business and elective classrooms: Fire safety, mental health, public safety

Now through Friday, October 27th, public school teachers can submit their application by answering three simple questions. Sacred Heart University a Code.org Regional Partner will be offering Computer Science Fundamentals (CSF) and Computer Science Discoveries (CSD)  workshops virtually and onsite during the school year. CSF is appropriate for ALL K-5 teachers and is a one-day workshop delivered onsite in person.

CSD is intended for educators teaching in grades 6-10. This workshop will be delivered during the school year and will require two hours per month of release time for teachers to participate.

Added incentives will be available for teachers to participate in the Lt. Governor’s Computing Challenge.  Partial or full funding is available. Attached are flyers and more information for each program.
